The primary emphasis of this project was on staff and clients feeling confident and safe in moving around their environment no matter what their level of vision or physical ability.
An existing office building was refurbished with a new entry ramp, new internal lift, wide corridors and a tonal palette that accentuated internal door and window openings. Skirtings, ‘trail rails’ and a variety of flooring textures were used to provide further visual and tactile clues to enable ease of circulation. A fully accessible toilet and shower was provided with wall finishes providing a tonal contrast to the white fittings. Externally, an outdoor dog run was provided for the convenience of Seeing Eye dogs and their owners with toileting and drinking facilities.
The facilities standards developed by JPA&D for Vision Australia were used at the Dandenong facility to provide an equitable environment for training and life skills education and to increase brand awareness in the area.
